What’s new

What changed in Atelier, dated and marked honestly: what is in the free public preview, what runs in our studio build, and what is still being worked on.

Public preview · updated 7 Nov 2026

The free public preview was updated on 7 November 2026. Atelier can now follow the context window your own AI engine reports. It is open source and off by default.

Changelog

Week of 7 November

  1. Public preview

    Context window from your engine

Atelier can ask your own AI engine, on your computer or your private network, which context window it really serves, and follow it without a restart. It is an optional module, off by default, sends read-only requests, never asks internet hosts unless you list them, and logs every change. How to turn it on.

    Public preview

Model lists show the real window

When Atelier lists the models on a llama.cpp-style server, it now reads the context the server actually loaded, not the length the model was trained on.

    Studio build

    Changes without a restart

Edits to model connections, presets and the interface now take effect in about two seconds while Atelier keeps running. A full restart used to take over a minute.

    Studio build

    A sturdier start

A tool connection that stops answering can no longer hold up Atelier’s start; it is retried in the background. Leftover helper processes are cleaned up, and a watchdog records any stall.

    Studio build

    Safer context windows

When an engine reports its window, Atelier only lowers the window it uses by default, never raises it.

    Studio build

Mission control, one card per engine

Every AI engine now has its own card with its real load, speed, queue and draft acceptance, read from the machine doing the work.

    Studio build

    16 interface fixes

The chat footer names the model that is really answering, the permission menu has icons and aligned rows, long titles end neatly after two lines, the plugins page offers Retry instead of loading forever, and clocks use 24 hours.

    Studio build

    FreeCAD guardrails for small models

A small model working in FreeCAD can only change what its own chat made, works in one document, leaves nothing behind when a step fails, and stops at a call limit. A slim setup cuts the first step’s input from about 17,000 tokens to about 1,200, with short tested how-to cards.

    Studio build

    Two buildings, built in FreeCAD

Working through Atelier, a local model built a small house and a garden pavilion in a live FreeCAD session. Both passed the clash check, and an independent review caught an off-centre window, which the model then fixed. These are simple massing models, not finished architecture.

    Studio build

AIT Asset Library, a desktop app

Our asset library as a desktop app for Windows and Linux: browse by architecture category, preview each model at real scale, check it in lit interior and plaza scenes, and export GLB, FBX, OBJ, USD or USDZ with the credits written inside every file.

    Studio build

More context on the same card

A new compression for the small model’s working memory fits about 21% more context on the same graphics card. In our long-context tests it matched 8-bit accuracy; it is still under review.

    Studio build

    Design apps brought current

The companion design apps Atelier works with were brought up to date, each tool tested with a real call, and one broken app was rebuilt and fixed.

    Studio build

One update source for every studio machine

Our Windows and Linux machines now update from one place. Every file is checked against its published checksum, and updates run quietly in the background.

    In progress

A small FreeCAD model, trained on our own work

We are training a small 4-billion-parameter model on FreeCAD work from our own projects only. The current round passed a real slab, stair-opening and column task in a live chat, and 7 of 24 multi-step test tasks. It cannot build a whole house yet.

    In progress

    A street context kit

Simple context models for street scenes (buildings, street lamps, intersections) are in review. They are low-detail context only and not released.

DEV BUILD

Most of this week’s work runs in our studio build first. The small FreeCAD model is still weak at multi-step work, the FreeCAD buildings are massing only, and the street kit is not released. Each feature moves into the free preview once it is proven.

The public preview is open source at github.com/arcitech-psp/atelier. Atelier is built on DeepSeek Harness by DeepSeek-AI (MIT licence).
